About This Series
The Peace dollar arrived in late 1921 to mark the end of World War I. Anthony de Francisci designed it; his wife Teresa was the model for Liberty. The 1921 high-relief version is sharply different from the reduced-relief coins made afterward, and the two types are frequently confused. Production stopped after 1928 when silver purchase obligations ended, then resumed briefly in 1934-35. A planned 1964 revival was cancelled after a small number were struck - those coins were melted. The 1928 Philadelphia is the key date in the regular series.
